Take advantage of the summer days for a romantic getaway in these beautiful European destinations for two! We have decided, with heavy hearts, to turn our backs on Paris (only for this article!) and to present European cities whose popularity is on the rise, and which are ideal for couples. Romantic squares with live music, quiet and mysterious canals and imposing buildings on the Mediterranean coast. Well, it’s a romantic!
Whether you are planning a trip with a partner or looking for a place where you can spend some time alone, here are the destinations you should pay special attention to:
Ljubljana, Slovenia – For An Eco-Friendly Romantic Getaway
The capital of Slovenia may not have a romantic reputation like its neighbors, Vienna and Venice, but it is becoming a serious rival. A day spent walking through the cobbled streets will reveal the true charm of Ljubljana: traditional buildings, banks of the river that divides the city into two parts, while a beautiful medieval castle gives a special historical touch. While in the city center, don’t forget to stop and watch the music performance in the main square.
Piran, Slovenia
Piran or “Venice of the East”, as it is still popularly called. This city offers a unique blend of Italian and Slovenian culture. Piran is a coastal city that has one of the best preserved old towns in Europe. The incredible resemblance to Venice is no accident. It is said that the Cathedral of St. George was modeled on the one from the Basilica of St. Mark!
Sevillle, Spain
Have you been to Barcelona? Add Seville to your list of destinations! The Andalusian capital is blessed with amazing Spanish architecture, an exciting art scene and the most beautiful flamenco performances in the region. Go straight to Alcazar. This castle was built by the Moorish kings and features unreal mosaics, finely carved arches and breathtaking gardens.
Kotor, Montenegro
This beautiful town on the Montenegrin coast is very special. It is surrounded by beaches that protect the massive mountains, and the water is extremely clean and clear. Choose your adventure: those who are more active can climb to the top of the fort and watch the sunset, and those who are more on the “gourmet side” can try local food in numerous restaurants lined up along the marble streets.
Paros, Greece
If the glittering Mykonos is not your cup of tea, consider Paros. This large island is full of quiet beaches, traditional villages and ruins. Take a boat to Antiparos, a small island off the coast with quiet beaches, adored by the locals. It is also one of the oldest cave systems in Greece.
