When you have a tight budget but have the itch to travel and get away from it all, a trip to an island may seem tough to manage. However, there are several ways to get that incredible trip and stay within a budget. Here are a couple islands I have found to be budget- friendly.
1. Phuket, Thailand
Phuket, a rainforested, mountainous island in the Andaman Sea, has some of Thailand’s most popular beaches. Thailand is also the cheapest entry point into Southeast Asia. So if you want to go to Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos or any of the other nearby countries, it’s worthwhile to see if it’s cheaper to fly to those countries once you’re in Thailand.
To get around the island you can rent a motorbike, which is a great way to explore or just travel by local bus. So many things to do and see that will still allow you to save money such as eating like a local, visit local fresh markets, go snorkeling , have fun night out at the Chillva Market. Other budget friendly activities to do are to visit the beautiful temples and shrines around the island. Check out Old Phuket Town, Enjoy the beaches and pools on the island, go to Phi Phi by Big Boat, get a Glimpse of Bangla Road.
2. Bocas del Toro, Panama
An archipelago off the northwest coast of Panama, Bocas del Toro is an eco-tourism favorite with English-speaking and other tourists traveling to this Central American country. A tropical island where you’ll find some of the best scuba diving and surf breaks in the country. Adventure lovers will find plenty of things to do to keep them occupied, such as scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, surfing and hiking. And if you are more into exploring, never fear—Bocas del Toro offers different kinds of tours , ranging from sailing to Nivida Bat Cave tours. It will cost you a bit more to get there due to the lesser demand, but unlike touristy, exotic destinations like Cancun, once you get there, you’ll save big, and you won’t have to deal with tourist crowds.
3. Exuma, Bahamas
The Bahamas are easily accessible from Florida, making for cheap airfare especially when compared to more other Caribbean destinations. One of the easiest ways to save on a trip to Exuma Bahamas is by planning your trip for the “off-season.” Cheaper flights and no tourists. The island would be yours.
Splurging on dinners is a quick way to drain a tight budget. Try picking up food at local markets for snacking throughout the day. Its a great way to taste the best fresh foods on Exuma island while also helping you save money. One thing that you must do in Exuma is swim with the pigs. Its fun for you and children. Swim, snorkel, take a tour, explore this gorgeous island without stressing about money.
4. Gjipe Beach, Albania
Although it’s probably not the first country that comes to mind when you hear “exotic,” Albania has some of the cheapest costs of living of all the countries in Europe. The views going down the hills make the perfectly lukewarm water that much sweeter. Once you arrive at the beach, the water is crystal clear – you can see what seems like 30 feet to the bottom. There’s many awesome caves you can explore too. You can also camp on the beach if you want. They provide the tents and mattress pads.
Albania has plenty of surprises. the southern coastline, with its lovely traditional villages, cobblestoned streets and small Orthodox churches, has plenty of beautiful beaches lapped by pristine waters, nearby Greece for half the price.
5. Goa, India
Goa is a state in western India with coastlines along the Arabian Sea. Goa is also known for its beaches, laid-back fishing villages such as Agonda. Savor a curry while you sip a Kingfisher beer, watching the sunset. Visit during Christmas time and experience a fantastic religious and cultural blend of Indian and Portuguese cultures. Sweetened with sun, sea, sand, seafood, relaxed and spirituality, Goa is India’s pocket-sized paradise.
6. Riga, Latvia
Latvia is referred to as “Europe’s best kept secret.”Riga is known as the cultural center of Latvia, making it a perfect place for historians as well as travelers. Filled with amazing architecture, history , gorgeous Jurmala beaches. There’s something for everyone at this magical city. Riga perfectly blends timeless tradition and cutting edge cool. Drop in and get energized by a city with surprises on every road and rooftop.
